Why you can trust it
Your browser encrypts your notes. The server stores only encrypted data.
The key stays with you. It comes from your passphrase, or from the part of a share link after the # sign. The server never gets it.
You can download all your notes at any time.
If you lose your passphrase, your notes are gone. Nobody can get them back.
Read the privacy page to see what the server stores and what it does not.
Questions
Can Secure notes read my notes?
No. Your browser encrypts each note before it sends the note to the server. The key comes from your passphrase. The passphrase stays in your browser.
The server holds only encrypted data. Nobody at Secure notes can read your notes.
What if I forget my passphrase?
Your notes are gone. Nobody can get them back. Not even we can.
Before you start, Secure notes asks you to confirm this. You can download a recovery copy of your notes while they are open.
How do I share a note?
Make a link for one note. Your browser makes a new key for that link. The key is in the part of the link after the # sign. Browsers never send that part to a server.
The link shows the note as it is now. Later changes do not show. A link does not end by itself. You delete it when you are done.
Do I need an account?
You sign in to keep notes, so the server knows whose notes they are. A person who gets a share link does not need an account.
Can I take my notes with me?
Yes. You can download one note as a .md or .txt file. You can also download all your notes as one .zip file.
